Bartlesville Osage Hills Honey & Prairie Heritage Festival 2028

Honey Festival · June 8–10, 2028 · Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Bartlesville — the Washington County seat in the Osage Hills of northeast Oklahoma, home of the Phillips Petroleum Company and the Frank Lloyd Wright Price Tower — sits at the intersection of the Cross Timbers and the Osage Plains in a landscape where the post oak woodlands, blackjack oak savannas, and tallgrass prairie remnants of the Osage Nation homeland create some of Oklahoma's most diverse and productive honey country. Washington County's honey landscape is shaped by the sumac, prairie clover, and native wildflower flows of the tallgrass prairie remnants of the Osage Reservation, which extend northward from Bartlesville into the Flint Hills of Kansas in one of the largest remaining intact tallgrass prairie ecosystems in North America; the black locust and redbud flows of the Cross Timbers woodlands that cover the sandstone hills along the Caney River and Verdigris River; the persimmon blossom and buckwheat flows of the post oak-blackjack savanna; and the goldenrod, aster, and late-season prairie wildflower flows that carry Osage Hills beekeepers into October. Woolaroc Ranch — the historic ranch and museum of Phillips Petroleum founder Frank Phillips, set in 3,700 acres of Osage Hills landscape — hosts this June festival celebrating Washington County's honey heritage in one of Oklahoma's most scenic and historically significant landscapes. The festival features an Oklahoma Honey Competition with sumac, prairie wildflower, and black locust categories; culinary pairings of Osage Hills honey with Oklahoma ranching and Osage Nation heritage foodways; Oklahoma Beekeepers Association educational programs on tallgrass prairie apiculture; and heritage exhibits celebrating the Osage Nation's homeland and the oil-boom era that transformed northeastern Oklahoma.
