Honey Festival · September 13–14, 2031 · Carson City, Nevada
Carson City — Nevada's historic capital city cradled in Eagle Valley at 4,800 feet between the Sierra Nevada and the Virginia Range, where the Carson Valley's alfalfa fields, desert wildflower meadows, and high-desert rabbitbrush and sage create a unique honey landscape at the crossroads of Great Basin and Sierra Nevada ecology — has long been a center for Nevada's small but passionate beekeeping community that harvests some of the American West's most distinctly flavored mono-varietal honeys from the alkaline-soil wildflowers of Basin and Range country. This September festival at Mills Park celebrates the capital city's connection to Nevada's beekeeping heritage through competitive honey shows featuring Great Basin varietals including desert wildflower, alfalfa, rabbitbrush, and high-desert sage, educational programs on the extraordinary ecological resilience of Great Basin pollinator plants that bloom in challenging arid conditions, demonstrations on the unique challenges and rewards of desert beekeeping from Nevada's experienced apiarists, culinary programs pairing Nevada's distinctive honeys with the state's farm-to-table traditions from the Carson Valley's agricultural communities.
