Cedar City Iron County Honey & High Desert Wildflower Tour

Apiary Tour · August 15, 2026 · Cedar City, Utah

Cedar City sits at 5,800 feet on Utah's high Colorado Plateau, surrounded by the vermilion sandstone of Cedar Breaks National Monument and the sagebrush steppe, cliffrose, rabbitbrush, and desert wildflower meadows of the Markagunt Plateau. Iron County's beekeepers work some of Utah's most botanically diverse high-desert honey country, producing distinctive sage, cliffrose, and mixed-wildflower honeys with the mineral-rich character of the plateau landscape. This guided apiary tour, organized through Southern Utah University's Regional Studies Center, visits three Cedar City-area apiaries in the foothills of the Markagunt Plateau, with stops to observe forager activity in cliffrose stands and native wildflower patches. Honey tastings at each stop highlight the elevation and aspect differences in floral sources; a closing reception pairs Iron County honeys with Southern Utah wines.
