Honey Fair · August 17–18, 2028 · Columbus, Indiana
Columbus — Indiana's internationally celebrated architecture city and the seat of Bartholomew County at the heart of the Driftless Area of the Tipton Till Plain — sits at the confluence of the Flatrock and Driftwood rivers in one of south-central Indiana's most agriculturally productive honey landscapes, where the deep glacial soils of the Bartholomew County plain, the restored prairie remnants along the White River tributaries, and the bottomland wildflower corridors of the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge region support thriving honey production. The city's reputation for design excellence, shaped by Eero Saarinen's First Christian Church, I.M. Pei's Cleo Rogers Library, and 70+ major architectural works, extends to its farmers markets and community events with a quality of setting rarely matched in a city of its size. Mill Race Park — itself an internationally recognized landscape design by Michael Van Valkenburgh — hosts this late-summer harvest fair celebrating Bartholomew County honey, featuring beekeepers from Columbus, Hope, Clifford, and the surrounding White River basin who produce the white clover, basswood, tulip poplar, and sweet clover honeys of Indiana's heartland. The fair showcases an architecture-and-honey design experience connecting Columbus's design heritage with the natural geometry of honeycomb construction; a county honey competition with prizes for wildflower, clover, and single-varietal categories; chef demonstrations pairing Columbus-area honey with locally grown produce; and Indiana Honey Producers educational exhibits on mid-state beekeeping practices.
