Cookeville Upper Cumberland Honey & Tennessee Plateau Heritage Festival 2032

Honey Festival · September 19–20, 2032 · Cookeville, Tennessee

Cookeville — the heart of Tennessee's Upper Cumberland Plateau, where Tennessee Tech University anchors a vibrant agricultural community surrounded by the Cumberland Plateau's remarkable botanical diversity that produces some of the finest wildflower honeys in the American South: sourwood honey from the Appalachian oak forests of the surrounding plateau ridges where sourwood trees bloom profusely each July to produce Tennessee's most prized varietal, tulip poplar honey from the cove hardwood forests of the Cumberland Plateau's protected hollows and stream valleys, black locust honey from the disturbed and edge habitats of Cookeville's agricultural borderlands that produce an exceptionally sweet and delicate spring varietal, mountain wildflower honey from the native plant communities of the Fall Creek Falls State Park plateau country and the Caney Fork River watershed, and goldenrod honey from the late-summer meadows of Putnam County's working farm landscape. This September festival at the Cookeville Depot Museum plaza celebrates the Upper Cumberland's extraordinary honey heritage through beekeepers from Tennessee's plateau country, offering competitive honey shows featuring the region's signature sourwood and wildflower varietals, guided tastings of plateau honey varieties, educational programs on beekeeping in limestone-plateau ecosystems, and tours of Cookeville's historic railroad depot that once served as the gateway to the Upper Cumberland.
