Honey Festival · July 19–20, 2031 · Decorah, Iowa
Decorah — the Winneshiek County city in Iowa's spectacular Driftless Area that preserves the Upper Midwest's most intact pre-glacial landscape — is home to Luther College and the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, and sits in a landscape of steep wooded bluffs, limestone springs, and cold trout streams where beekeepers harvest rich basswood, black locust, sweet clover, and prairie wildflower honey from apiaries overlooking the Upper Iowa River valley. This July festival at Ice Cave Hill celebrates Winneshiek County's extraordinary natural environment and Scandinavian-American heritage, featuring honey from Driftless Area producers known for complex multi-floral varietals from one of the Midwest's most botanically diverse landscapes, traditional Norwegian folk arts, guided kayak tours of the Upper Iowa River past limestone bluffs and wildflower meadows, and educational demonstrations on how the Driftless Area's unglaciated topography creates exceptional micro-climates for diverse honey production.
