Honey Festival · April 25–27, 2027 · Grand Junction, Colorado
Grand Junction — Mesa County's Colorado Plateau city in the heart of the Grand Valley, home to the Palisade Peach and one of Colorado's most distinctive agricultural landscapes — sits at the confluence of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers in a sheltered valley where the Colorado Plateau's warm, semi-arid climate creates a microclimate ideal for fruit orchards and beekeeping, producing the aromatic peach blossom, apple blossom, cherry blossom, and desert wildflower honeys that have made the Western Slope one of Colorado's finest artisan honey regions. The Mesa County Fairgrounds hosts this late-April festival celebrating the honey heritage of Colorado's Western Slope, timed to coincide with the spectacular peak bloom of the Grand Valley's fruit orchards — when hundreds of thousands of honeybee colonies are deployed into the Palisade and Orchard Mesa orchards for pollination and begin producing the delicately flavored fruit-blossom honey unique to this high-desert agricultural landscape. The Grand Valley's honey is unlike any other Colorado varietal: the combination of the Colorado Plateau's warm, dry climate (dramatically different from the Rocky Mountain Front Range), the rich volcanic soil of the Grand Valley, and the extraordinary concentration of fruit orchards creates a fruit-blossom honey season in late April and early May that produces light, floral, intensely aromatic peach and apple blossom honeys prized by artisan honey enthusiasts. The festival features Western Slope fruit-blossom honey tastings; orchard pollination demonstrations at Palisade peach and apple farms; educational programs from Colorado State University Extension on Western Slope commercial beekeeping; wine-and-honey pairings featuring Grand Valley AVA wines with local artisan honeys; artisan vendors; and presentations on managing colonies in the Colorado Plateau's warm desert environment.
