Honey Fair · August 6–7, 2027 · Helena, Montana
Helena — Montana's capital city in Lewis & Clark County, set in a granite-walled gulch at the foot of the Big Belt Mountains where the Corps of Discovery passed through in 1805 — hosts this late-summer fair celebrating the confluence of Montana's frontier heritage and its exceptional mountain wildflower and sweet clover honey production. Lewis and Clark County beekeepers work landscapes of extraordinary botanical diversity: the Big Belt, Elkhorn, and Scratch Gravel Mountains frame Helena's valley with subalpine wildflower meadows, while the Missouri River bottomlands below the Gates of the Mountains produce dense stands of sweet clover and black locust favored by commercial apiaries. The fair features a Montana honey varietal tasting comparing mountain wildflower, sweet clover, and fireweed honey characters, Lewis & Clark-inspired heritage food demonstrations incorporating Montana honey into frontier-style cooking, local mead producers and honey-infused craft spirits tasting, beekeeping equipment and artisan product marketplace, and educational presentations from Montana State University Extension on managing Montana's short but intensely productive honey season.
