Kearney — the Sandhill Crane Capital of the World along the Central Platte River — hosts the 2030 Kearney Platte River Honey & Sandhill Crane Heritage Festival at Yanney Heritage Park. Buffalo County and central Nebraska beekeepers present alfalfa, sweet clover, sunflower, and native prairie wildflower honeys from the Platte River watershed. The festival coincides with crane migration season, featuring guided river channel wildlife walks, honey tastings, Nebraska Beekeepers Association educational booths, and a prairie pollinator photography contest highlighting honey bees and native pollinators in the iconic Central Platte environment.
