Nashville Brown County Honey & Covered Bridge Heritage Festival 2033

Honey Festival · October 4–5, 2033 · Nashville, Indiana

Nashville, Indiana — the artistic capital of the Hoosier State and hub of Brown County, often called the 'Little Smoky Mountains' for its forested hills and autumn splendor — sits at the heart of Indiana's finest honey-producing terrain: the unglaciated hill country of south-central Indiana, where rugged ridges and hollows carpeted with mature hardwood forest support an exceptional sequence of honey plants from early spring through late autumn. The tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) is Indiana's premier honey tree: its distinctive tulip-shaped yellow-orange flowers cover the Brown County hillsides in late May, producing a deep amber honey with caramel and vanilla notes that beekeepers consider among the finest Indiana produces. Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) blooms just before tulip poplar in early May on the rocky ridges, producing a water-white honey with delicate fragrance. American basswood/linden (Tilia americana) follows in late June, contributing herbal, minty tones. The autumn goldenrod and aster flows from Brown County State Park — Indiana's largest state park at 15,696 forested acres — fill winter stores with rich amber honey. The festival is timed to coincide with Brown County's famous fall color season and the county's storied covered bridge tradition. Competitive honey shows, live extraction demonstrations from Brown County apiaries, honey pairings with local artisan food producers from Nashville's gallery district, and guided botanical walks through the park's honey-producing forest round out the program.
