Honey Festival · April 12–14, 2028 · Natchez, Mississippi
Natchez — the Adams County seat and the oldest European settlement on the Mississippi River — sits on the Loess Hills bluffs overlooking the great river at the southern terminus of the historic Natchez Trace, one of America's oldest roads, in a landscape where the extraordinary biodiversity of the Mississippi River floodplain, the Loess Hills bluff forests, and the agricultural landscapes of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain converge to create some of the South's most distinctive honey-producing territory. Adams County's honey landscape is shaped by the Chinese tallow tree's massive late-spring flow, which dominates the county's white honey production and gives Natchez its signature pale tallow tree varietal; the tupelo honey production of the cypress swamps along the lower Mississippi corridor; the gallberry and wildflower flows of the Homochitto National Forest to the east; and the remarkable floral diversity of the antebellum plantation gardens and landscaped grounds that make Natchez one of the most botanically diverse historic landscapes in the American South. The Natchez Convention Center and Bluff Park host this April festival celebrating the Natchez Trace's honey heritage where the road's historic connections between Native American, French colonial, and American settlement cultures intersect with the region's beekeeping traditions. The festival features a Mississippi Varietal Honey Competition with special categories for tallow tree and tupelo; culinary pairings connecting Natchez honey with Creole and Lowcountry Southern cuisine; Natchez Trace National Parkway educational programs on pollinator habitat along the historic corridor; and heritage programs celebrating the Natchez Nation, the French colonial legacy, and the African American and free Black communities that shaped Natchez's complex antebellum history.
