Honey Festival · August 14–16, 2031 · Sedalia, Missouri
Sedalia — the Pettis County city that anchors Missouri's famed State Fairgrounds and sits at the heart of the sweet clover belt stretching across the Missouri River valley — has hosted the Missouri State Fair since 1901, and its annual honey competition at the Agriculture Building draws entries from every corner of the state's diverse beekeeping landscape, from the basswood and black locust hollows of the Ozarks to the sweet clover and white clover bottomlands of the Grand River valley and the native prairie wildflower meadows of the glaciated plains. This August festival at the Missouri State Fairgrounds celebrates the extraordinary depth of the Show Me State's beekeeping tradition, featuring competitive classes for every major Missouri varietal honey, live hive demonstrations from the Missouri State Beekeepers Association, culinary showcases pairing Missouri honey with the state's outstanding BBQ, corn, and stone fruit traditions, educational programs on Missouri's role as a top Midwest honey-producing state, and hands-on beginner beekeeping workshops led by master beekeepers from across the state's eight distinct ecological regions.
