Selma Black Belt Honey & Civil Heritage Festival 2031

Honey Festival · June 14–15, 2031 · Selma, Alabama

Selma — the Dallas County city on the Alabama River whose rich Black Belt soils and deep Civil Rights history make it one of Alabama's most historically resonant places — sits at the heart of one of the South's most distinctive honey-producing landscapes, where beekeepers harvest gallberry, tulip poplar, cotton blossom, sweet clover, and black locust honey from the ancient Black Belt prairie remnants and bottomland forests along the Alabama River. This June festival at Riverfront Park celebrates Dallas County's beekeeping heritage alongside the city's storied history as a hub of Alabama agriculture and the Civil Rights movement, featuring honey from producers across the Alabama River valley, guided tours of the surrounding Black Belt prairies and their extraordinary native wildflower diversity, live gospel and blues music reflecting Selma's deep cultural traditions, and educational demonstrations on the importance of pollinators to cotton, soybean, and vegetable agriculture throughout the Black Belt region.
