Honey Festival · September 20–21, 2029 · Shawnee, Oklahoma
Pottawatomie County's county seat near the Citizen Potawatomi Nation headquarters celebrates the rich beekeeping heritage of Oklahoma's Cross Timbers and Seminole Hills at this September festival. Local beekeepers from the South Canadian River corridor present sumac, prairie clover, wild plum blossom, persimmon, and post oak wildflower honeys that reflect the transition zone where eastern woodland meets Great Plains. The Citizen Potawatomi Nation's Potawatomi Leadership Program co-sponsors Native pollinator garden tours and traditional ecological knowledge presentations alongside demonstrations of split-log bee gum hives and honey harvest techniques from the eastern nations who brought beekeeping traditions west along the Trail of Tears.
