Honey Festival · August 8–9, 2030 · Vernal, Utah
Vernal — the Uinta County seat in northeastern Utah's remote Uinta Basin on the Green River drainage — sits in a high-desert plateau landscape surrounded by the Uinta Mountains to the north and the Book Cliffs to the south, where beekeepers harvest rabbitbrush, sweet clover, alfalfa, and mountain wildflower honey from apiaries ranging from the Green River wetlands to the alpine meadows above 10,000 feet in the High Uintas Wilderness. This August festival at Ashley Valley Park celebrates the remarkable Uinta Basin beekeeping heritage, featuring honey from Uintah and Duchesne County producers, educational presentations on the Green River riparian corridor wildflower ecology from Utah State University Vernal extension faculty, guided nature tours of the Steinaker State Park native plant pollinator habitats, and connections to the rich Fremont-era and Ute cultural traditions of the Uinta Basin. The event also spotlights how the Uinta Basin's combination of oil country mesa-top lands, high mountain summer ranges, and river valley agriculture creates a honey mosaic unlike any other in the Intermountain West.
