Honey Festival · August 16–17, 2030 · Westerly, Rhode Island
Westerly — the southwestern Rhode Island town anchoring the Pawcatuck River valley on the Connecticut border in Washington County — encompasses the Watch Hill lighthouse promontory, Misquamicut State Beach, and a landscape of beach plum thickets, rosa rugosa hedges, coastal meadows, and apple orchards where beekeepers harvest distinctive coastal wildflower, goldenrod, beach plum blossom, and wild rose honey from hives scattered across the South County shoreline from Weekapaug to Stonington. This August festival at Wilcox Park — one of New England's finest Victorian park landscapes — celebrates Washington County beekeeping traditions with honey tastings, seaside honey-and-seafood pairings, guided tours of the park's heritage rose collection and coastal wildflower garden, and demonstrations of honey extraction equipment dating to the 19th century from the Westerly Public Library local history collection. The event is co-presented by the Rhode Island Beekeepers Association South County chapter and the Westerly Land Trust.
