Wrangell Southeast Alaska Honey & Wild Berry Apiary Tour 2028

Apiary Tour · June 21–23, 2028 · Wrangell, Alaska

Wrangell — Alaska's fourth-oldest city on Wrangell Island at the confluence of the Stikine and Zimovia straits in Southeast Alaska's Inside Passage — sits within one of the most botanically rich corners of the Tongass National Forest, where the legendary Stikine River delta, the world's largest intact temperate rainforest, and the nutrient-dense coastal ecosystems produce an extraordinary mix of fireweed, devil's club, salmonberry blossom, elderberry flower, and coastal meadow wildflowers that support some of Southeast Alaska's most productive beekeeping operations. This guided weekend apiary tour program takes small groups through working apiaries on Wrangell Island and along the spectacular Stikine River delta flats, where beekeepers have adapted their management practices to the Inside Passage's unique combination of long summer daylight hours, abundant rainfall, and the explosive coastal wildflower bloom that follows Stikine River silt deposition on the world's most productive non-Arctic river delta. Participants learn about the challenges and rewards of beekeeping in maritime Southeast Alaska, taste rare fireweed-dominant honey from Wrangell's apiaries, explore the Stikine-LeConte Wilderness wildflower meadows on guided skiff tours, and meet Wrangell's beekeeping community at a honey tasting reception in the historic Chief Shakes Tribal House area. The tour covers the full cycle from spring setup through the fireweed flow, devil's club blossom, and fall honey harvest, showcasing how Southeast Alaska's maritime climate produces honeys with flavor profiles unlike any other region of the country.
