Honey Festival · August 9–10, 2031 · Bemidji, Minnesota
Bemidji — the Beltrami County city at the headwaters of the Mississippi River where Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues welcome visitors to Minnesota's Northwoods — sits at the edge of the Chippewa National Forest where beekeepers harvest remarkable boreal-edge basswood, sweet clover, fireweed, goldenrod, and wild blueberry honey from apiaries set among the birch forests, tamarack bogs, and wild rice lakes of the upper Mississippi watershed. This August festival on the Lake Bemidji shoreline celebrates Beltrami County's indigenous Ojibwe harvesting traditions and Scandinavian-American homesteading heritage alongside the Northwoods' exceptional honey terroir, featuring producers from across the Chippewa National Forest region, guided canoe trips on the Mississippi's earliest navigable stretches through wild rice beds and boreal wetlands, educational programs on the Ojibwe traditional ecological knowledge of native bee habitats, and demonstrations of wild blueberry and basswood honey production from one of Minnesota's most distinctive boreal honey landscapes.
