Coeur d'Alene Panhandle Honey & Lake District Heritage Festival 2028

Honey Festival · August 10–11, 2028 · Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Coeur d'Alene — the crown jewel of Idaho's northern Panhandle, set on the eastern shore of one of the most beautiful natural lakes in North America — anchors a remarkable honey-producing region where the Pacific Northwest maritime influence, the Rocky Mountain transition, and the diverse lake-district ecosystems of the Idaho Panhandle converge. The Coeur d'Alene Lake basin's rich mosaic of second-growth forests, resurgent camas prairies, riparian wildflower corridors, and the berry-rich slopes of the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane river drainages supports honey production unlike anything in the Great Basin or Snake River Plain to the south. Independence Point Park on the Coeur d'Alene lakefront hosts this late-summer festival celebrating the Panhandle's honey culture, drawing beekeepers from Kootenai, Benewah, Bonner, and Boundary counties who produce the sweet clover, fireweed, snowbrush, and riparian wildflower honeys that characterize North Idaho's unique high-latitude, lake-moderated honey landscape. Highlights include a Panhandle honey competition with classes for sweet clover, fireweed, and multi-flora wildflower; lake-to-table culinary pairings featuring Coeur d'Alene Lake kokanee salmon, huckleberry preserves, and local honey; paddleboard and kayak tours to lakeshore wildflower habitats; Idaho Panhandle National Forest educational exhibits on pollinator ecology; and children's programs celebrating North Idaho's beekeeping heritage.
