Glacier Country Honey & Northern Rockies Heritage Festival 2028

Honey Festival · August 16–18, 2028 · Kalispell, Montana

Whitefish — the resort community of Flathead County sitting at the base of the Whitefish Range and the edge of Glacier National Park's western boundary — anchors one of Montana's most scenically spectacular and botanically rich honey-producing landscapes, where the Flathead Valley's agricultural bottomlands, the Whitefish Lake corridor, the Stillwater State Forest, and the wildflower-blanketed meadows and avalanche chutes of the Whitefish Range combine to produce the fireweed, sweet clover, and mountain wildflower honeys that define Glacier Country beekeeping. Flathead County's honey landscape is shaped by the extraordinary fireweed flows of the Flathead Valley's burned-over forest lands and the Glacier National Park fire corridors; the sweet clover and alfalfa fields of the Columbia Falls and Kalispell agricultural plain; the huckleberry and beargrass blossoms of the subalpine meadows accessible to mountain-pasture colonies; and the remarkable botanical diversity of the Going-to-the-Sun Road corridor where over 1,000 plant species create a compressed mountain wildflower honey flow from June through September. The Flathead County Fairgrounds — site of the Northwest Montana Fair — host this August festival celebrating Glacier Country's honey and mountain heritage, drawing beekeepers from Flathead, Lincoln, Sanders, and Lake counties who maintain Montana's tradition of fireweed and wildflower production in the most scenic beekeeping landscape in the Rocky Mountain West.
