About this event

Frankfort — the Franklin County state capital city nestled dramatically in the Kentucky River Palisades, where the towering limestone gorge walls, Inner Bluegrass farmland, and surrounding hardwood forests support exceptional populations of white clover, basswood, tulip poplar, black locust, goldenrod, and Kentucky River wildflower that yield some of the Bluegrass Region's most celebrated honey varietals — in a community renowned for its stunning Capitol building, the Buffalo Trace Distillery's bourbon heritage, the Kentucky River's exceptional natural beauty, and its role as the political and cultural heart of the Commonwealth — is home to a multigenerational beekeeping community whose families have harvested honey from the Palisades' remarkable botanical diversity for generations, producing honey varietals that reflect both the Inner Bluegrass's rich agricultural mosaic and the wild floral abundance of the Kentucky River canyon. This August festival at Riverview Park celebrates Franklin County's honey heritage through producers from across the Kentucky Bluegrass's Franklin, Woodford, Anderson, and Scott counties, competitive honey shows featuring regional white clover, basswood, tulip poplar, and Kentucky River Palisades wildflower honey, guided tastings pairing Frankfort-area honey with Buffalo Trace bourbon and Kentucky artisan foods, and educational programs on the Inner Bluegrass limestone karst ecosystem's role in supporting Kentucky's world-class honey production.
