Iowa Honey & Wildflower Prairie Festival

Honey Festival · July 17–18, 2027 · Ames, Iowa

The Iowa Honey & Wildflower Prairie Festival celebrates the incredible diversity of prairie honey produced across the Hawkeye State, where restored tallgrass prairies and working farmland yield distinctive basswood, sweet clover, alfalfa, and wildflower honeys. Held at Ames’ popular Reiman Gardens, the festival features tasting stations from 20+ Iowa beekeepers, hands-on honeycomb extraction, live hive observation, and expert talks on native prairie restoration. The Iowa Honey Producers Association hosts a judged honey show with categories for light amber, dark amber, comb honey, and creamed honey. Cooking demonstrations highlight Iowa honey in regional recipes, and local mead producers pour craft honey wines throughout the afternoon.
