Jackson — the Madison County city at the crossroads of West Tennessee, situated between the Tennessee River and the Mississippi Delta lowlands where the Highland Rim meets the West Tennessee Coastal Plain, producing an exceptional diversity of cotton blossom honey from surrounding agricultural fields, tulip poplar from upland woodlands, white clover from fescue pastures, tallow tree from fence lines, goldenrod, and diverse West Tennessee wildflower that creates some of the state's most distinctive regional honey flavors from landscapes shaped by centuries of cotton-belt agriculture and bottomland hardwood forest — is home to a beekeeping tradition that reflects both the Deep South cotton country and Appalachian highland heritage that converge in this West Tennessee gateway city. This May festival at Cypress Grove Nature Park celebrates Jackson's unique position in Tennessee honey culture through producers from across Madison, Chester, Henderson, and Hardeman counties, competitive honey shows featuring West Tennessee's prized cotton blossom and bottomland wildflower varieties rarely found in other parts of the state, educational programs on the history of beekeeping in the West Tennessee cotton belt, guided tastings pairing local honey with smoked West Tennessee pulled pork and locally milled cornbread, and presentations on the vital role of honeybees in pollinating West Tennessee's diverse agricultural and natural landscapes.
