Honey Festival · June 13–14, 2032 · Kapaa, Hawaii
Kapaa — the Kauai County 'Coconut Coast' community on the lush east shore of the Garden Island, where the Ko'olau Mountains' near-daily rainfall nurtures one of Hawaii's most biodiverse landscapes of lehua 'ōhi'a forest, java plum, Christmas berry, beach morning glory, sea grape, and tropical garden blossom that support thriving bee populations and yield extraordinarily complex, floral Hawaiian honey varietals found nowhere else on earth — in a community renowned for its vibrant artist community, scenic Ke Ala Hele Makalae coastal path, and deep Native Hawaiian agricultural tradition rooted in the ahupua'a land stewardship system — is home to a dedicated community of small-scale beekeepers who bridge indigenous Hawaiian land knowledge with contemporary apiculture practice. This June festival on the Kapaa waterfront celebrates Kauai's remarkable honey heritage through producers from across the island's contrasting microclimates, from the wet windward north shore lehua forests to the drier south shore and the high-country mountain meadows above Waimea Canyon, competitive honey shows featuring Kauai's exceptional lehua blossom, java plum, Christmas berry, and rare macadamia varietal honeys, guided tastings pairing east Kauai honey with local poi, fresh taro preparations, and island-raised artisan foods, and educational programs on how Hawaii's unique island ecology and absence of certain bee diseases creates conditions for some of the world's most prized varietal honeys.
