Prescott — the Yavapai County mountain city at 5,370 feet elevation in the Prescott National Forest, where the transition zone between the Sonoran Desert and the Colorado Plateau supports an exceptional diversity of manzanita, mountain clover, ponderosa meadow wildflower, locoweed, black locust, and high-desert shrub blossom that yield some of Arizona's most distinctive and sought-after highland honey varietals, in a community celebrated as Arizona's 'Everybody's Hometown' and a center of Victorian-era Western frontier architectural heritage surrounding Courthouse Plaza — is home to a thriving beekeeping community that takes advantage of the Bradshaw Mountains' remarkable botanical diversity to produce honeys found nowhere else in the American Southwest. This June festival at Courthouse Plaza celebrates Yavapai County's remarkable honey heritage through producers from across the Prescott region, Chino Valley, and Prescott Valley, competitive honey shows featuring Arizona's highland manzanita, mountain wildflower, and desert transition varietals alongside demonstrations of high-elevation Langstroth and top-bar hive management, guided tastings pairing Prescott highland honey with locally made artisan foods, and educational programs connecting the remarkable botanical diversity of the Prescott National Forest with the ecological health of the Colorado Plateau's most productive highland honey landscape.
