Moorhead Red River Valley Honey & Prairie Wildflower Fair 2027

Honey Fair · July 31, 2027 – August 1, 2027 · Moorhead, Minnesota

Moorhead — Clay County seat on the Red River of the North, directly across from Fargo, North Dakota, in the heart of the Red River Valley's extraordinary agricultural landscape — occupies the center of one of America's flattest and most productive agricultural regions, where the ancient glacial lake bed of Lake Agassiz has created an endlessly fertile plain of black glacial soil supporting some of the richest farmland in the world, and where Minnesota's beekeeping tradition extends into one of the state's most distinctive agricultural honey landscapes: the Red River Valley's sunflower fields, sugar beet acres, and soybean fields are interspersed with wetland sloughs, shelter belts, and native prairie remnants that create a honey landscape of extraordinary agricultural productivity, with sweet clover and sunflower providing the Valley's characteristic honey flavors. Hjemkomst Center's riverfront setting on the Red River hosts this late-July fair celebrating the Red River Valley's beekeeping heritage and the distinctive agricultural honey varieties of Minnesota's far northwest, featuring beekeepers from Clay, Becker, Polk, and Norman counties who maintain hives throughout the Valley's farm fields, shelterbelt corridors, and native prairie preserves. The Red River Valley's honey landscape is defined by the dramatic contrast between the intensively cultivated valley floor — where sunflower honey is a distinctive regional specialty, its dark amber color and pleasantly bitter, seed-forward flavor reflecting the Valley's position as one of America's premier sunflower-growing regions — and the native prairie remnants and wetland edges that provide wildflower diversity to complement the Valley's agricultural honey base.
