Salem County Honey & Delaware Bay Agricultural Heritage Festival 2028

Honey Festival · September 20–22, 2028 · Woodstown, New Jersey

Salem — the seat of Salem County, New Jersey's southwesternmost county on the Delaware Bay — anchors one of the Mid-Atlantic's least-known but most distinctive honey-producing regions, where the rich agricultural landscape of Salem County's Coastal Plain, the tidal wetlands of the Delaware Estuary, the blueberry and peach orchards of the South Jersey agricultural interior, and the remnant Atlantic White Cedar swamps of the Pine Barrens transition create honey of extraordinary character and variety. Salem County's honey landscape is shaped by the remarkable blueberry blossom flow of May and June, when the county's extensive highbush blueberry farms covering the Cohansey River drainage produce the prized pale, slightly fruity blueberry blossom honey that South Jersey beekeepers prize; the tulip poplar and black locust flows of the Delaware River bottomland hardwood forests; the gallberry and white cedar blossom flows of the Atlantic White Cedar bogs near the Pine Barrens transition; and the late-season goldenrod, aster, and salt marsh wildflower flows of the Delaware Estuary that extend the South Jersey honey season into October. The Salem County Fairgrounds host this September festival celebrating Salem County's Quaker agricultural heritage and the Delaware Bay's honey traditions, drawing beekeepers from Salem, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties who maintain the South Jersey tradition of blueberry orchard pollination and artisan honey production in one of the East Coast's most productive but least celebrated agricultural landscapes.
