Honey Fair · July 23–25, 2027 · Sheridan, Wyoming
Sheridan — Wyoming's northern gateway city at the foot of the dramatic Bighorn Mountains — sits in one of the Rocky Mountain West's most scenic and botanically productive beekeeping landscapes, where the Bighorn Mountain foothills' wildflower meadows, alfalfa farms of the Tongue and Goose Creek valleys, and high-elevation subalpine meadows of the Cloud Peak Wilderness create the extraordinary honey flow making northern Wyoming one of the Intermountain West's finest artisan honey regions. The Sheridan County Fairgrounds host this mid-summer fair celebrating Wyoming's beekeeping heritage in the shadow of the Cloud Peak and Bighorn wilderness areas, featuring honey producers from Sheridan, Johnson, and Big Horn counties who harvest the sweet clover, alfalfa, and mountain wildflower honeys unique to the Powder River country and the eastern Bighorn face. Northern Wyoming's Bighorn Basin and Tongue River corridor represent some of the most productive honey-producing landscapes in the Mountain West: the combination of irrigated alfalfa farms in the valley bottoms with rich natural wildflower meadows of the Bighorn Mountain foothills creates a honey flow peaking in late July, producing thick, aromatic mountain honey with the distinctive character of high-altitude Rocky Mountain nectar sources. The fair features a Wyoming honey judging competition with specialty classes for mountain wildflower, alfalfa, and sweet clover honeys; Bighorn Mountain wildflower pollinator garden tours; educational sessions on managing colonies at elevation in Wyoming's challenging cold-weather climate; artisan honey and beeswax vendors; ranch heritage displays celebrating the historic connection between Wyoming cattle ranching and the beekeeping that has supported agriculture in the Tongue River valley since territorial days.
