About this event

Tuscumbia — the Colbert County city on the south bank of the Tennessee River in Alabama's historic Muscle Shoals district, where the fertile limestone flats of the Tennessee Valley and the neighboring Bankhead National Forest foothills support exceptional populations of tulip poplar, sourwood, black locust, white clover, cotton blossom, and spring wildflower that yield some of the most complex and celebrated honey varietals in all of northern Alabama, in a community famous as the birthplace of Helen Keller and a center of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound musical heritage — is home to a beekeeping tradition rooted in the extraordinary botanical richness of the Tennessee River corridor. This May festival at Spring Park celebrates Colbert County's remarkable honey heritage through producers from across the Tennessee Valley's Lauderdale, Colbert, Lawrence, and Morgan counties, competitive honey shows featuring Alabama's prized sourwood, tulip poplar, and black locust mono-varietal classes alongside wildflower and cotton blossom specialties, educational demonstrations on traditional Appalachian beekeeping practices adapted to the Tennessee Valley's unique climate, guided tastings pairing local honeys with Muscle Shoals-area artisan foods and music, and programs connecting the remarkable ecological diversity of the Bankhead National Forest and Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge with the quality of the region's celebrated local honey.
