Eau Claire — the Chippewa County city where the Chippewa and Eau Claire Rivers converge in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods transition zone, situated at the ecological boundary where the northern basswood and sugar maple forests meet the Chippewa Valley's rich agricultural bottomlands, producing the beloved Wisconsin basswood honey — prized for its exceptionally light color, minty overtones, and delicate floral character — alongside sweet clover, goldenrod, white dutch clover, raspberry blossom, and diverse northern hardwood forest wildflower that rank among the state's most sought-after local honey varietals from a landscape shaped by glacial lakes, river valleys, and the northern edge of Wisconsin's productive agricultural belt — is home to a passionate beekeeping community in one of the state's most beautiful natural settings. This August festival at Phoenix Park on the Eau Claire riverfront celebrates Chippewa Valley's exceptional honey heritage through producers from across Chippewa, Eau Claire, Dunn, and Clark counties, competitive honey shows featuring Wisconsin's prized basswood mono-varietal alongside Northwoods wildflower and berry blossom classes, educational programs on sustainable beekeeping at the agricultural-forest interface, guided tastings pairing local basswood and wildflower honey with Wisconsin aged cheddar and Chippewa Valley artisan foods, and demonstrations connecting the ecological health of northern Wisconsin's lake country with the quality and character of its exceptional local honey.
