Hood River Valley Honey & Pear Blossom Harvest Festival 2027

Honey Festival · September 25–26, 2027 · Hood River, Oregon

Hood River — the Hood River County seat in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, perched between Mount Hood’s glacier-clad volcanic slopes to the south and the Columbia River’s dramatic basalt-walled gorge to the north, at the heart of one of the world’s great fruit-growing regions where the orchard-covered valley floors and benchlands produce pears, apples, and cherries of international renown — occupies what may be Oregon’s most unique and agriculturally significant honey landscape: the Hood River Valley’s pear, apple, and cherry orchards provide an extraordinary concentration of early-spring blossom honey flows that are among the most prized floral varietals in the Pacific Northwest, with Bosc and Bartlett pear blossom honey — delicate, faintly fruity, and rarely available commercially — being the signature varietal of the Hood River Valley’s beekeeping community. The Hood River Waterfront Park along the Columbia River hosts this mid-September harvest festival celebrating Hood River County’s beekeeping heritage and the orchard honey varieties of the Columbia Gorge, featuring beekeepers from Hood River, Wasco, and Skamania counties who maintain hives in the orchard corridors, wildflower meadows, and the diverse native flora of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area’s east-west transition zone where Oregon’s wet-side forest gives way to the rain-shadow shrub-steppe. Hood River’s honey landscape is shaped by the Columbia Gorge’s remarkable ecological gradient: the west end of Hood River County receives significant Pacific moisture and supports mixed conifer forests with vine maple and Oregon grape understory, while the county’s eastern reaches transition to the ponderosa pine and bitterbrush semi-arid landscape of the High Desert, creating a honey diversity that spans the full range of Oregon’s ecological zones within a single county’s boundaries.
