Honey Festival · June 14–15, 2033 · Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Rehoboth Beach — Delaware's 'Nation's Summer Capital' on the Atlantic coast of Sussex County, where the barrier island coastline, the Great Marsh, and the Cape Henlopen State Park's maritime forest and dune system create a botanical environment producing some of the East Coast's most distinctive coastal wildflower honey. The Delaware coast between Rehoboth and Lewes constitutes one of the East Coast's finest beach plum (Prunus maritima) growing regions, with the wild beach plum shrubs covering every coastal dune and sandy thicket in white flowers each May — producing the East Coast's most prized coastal honey varietal with its distinctive tart-floral character and delicate almond fragrance. Cape Henlopen State Park's protected Great Dune and maritime forest support this exceptional beach plum population alongside seaside goldenrod (Solidago sempervirens) that covers the dune crests in September and October, sea lavender (Limonium carolinianum) in the salt marshes, rosa rugosa along the boardwalk fences, and beach rose-hip in the coastal scrub. The Rehoboth Beach boardwalk area and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal corridor attract Delaware beekeepers who produce honey from this rare coastal floral palette. The festival at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center celebrates Delaware's coastal honey tradition alongside beach plum jam and preserve demonstrations, honey-seaside pairings, and the botanical heritage of Cape Henlopen's maritime ecosystems.
