Telluride Mountain Honey & Wildflower Festival 2033

Honey Festival · August 2–3, 2033 · Telluride, Colorado

Telluride — the spectacular mountain resort town in the box canyon of the San Miguel River at 8,750 feet elevation in San Miguel County, Colorado, surrounded by 14,000-foot peaks of the San Juan Mountains in one of the most botanically extraordinary alpine environments in North America. The San Juan Mountains' exceptional geology — ancient volcanic fields, mineral-rich soils, and dramatic elevation gradients from 7,000 to 14,500 feet — supports a wildflower diversity that draws naturalists from around the world to the famous Telluride Wildflower Festival every July. That same botanical richness makes the Telluride area one of Colorado's most distinctive high-altitude honey landscapes, though the short growing season demands hive management of exceptional skill. Fireweed blazes across every disturbed slope and avalanche path from mid-July through August, producing the area's most abundant honey crop with its ethereal pale-golden color and delicate floral character; native clovers (Trifolium species) and vetches bloom in the subalpine meadows from July through August; mountain wildflowers including larkspur, monkshood, paintbrush, bistort, and global varieties of aster and goldenrod cover the alpine tundra above 11,000 feet; balsamroot and mule's ear cover the lower sagebrush slopes from late May through June; and the Uncompahgre Plateau's oaks and serviceberry provide early spring forage before the mountain season begins. The festival celebrates the San Juan's unique mountain honey alongside the world-famous Telluride wildflower season.
