Newport Honey & Colonial Herb Garden Festival 2028

Honey Festival · July 13–15, 2028 · Newport, Rhode Island

Newport — the Newport County seat and Rhode Island's Gilded Age resort capital, perched on Aquidneck Island at the mouth of Narragansett Bay — combines one of America's most remarkable concentrations of colonial and Victorian architecture with a distinctive island honey landscape shaped by the Atlantic's maritime influence, the bay's estuarine ecology, and Aquidneck Island's centuries-old agricultural and garden traditions. Newport County's honey landscape is shaped by the coastal wildflower flows of Aquidneck Island's rocky shoreline meadows and glacial moraine pastures, where the Atlantic sea breeze and milder maritime temperatures create a distinctive coastal honey character; the apple, pear, and heritage orchard blossom flows of the island's historic farmland, much of which has been preserved by the Newport County Open Space program; the rose, lavender, and formal garden blossom flows of the Gilded Age mansion estates whose grounds include some of New England's most elaborate historic garden plantings; and the goldenrod, aster, and beach plum blossom flows of the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge and Norman Bird Sanctuary that extend the island honey season into October. The Preservation Society of Newport County's Breakers Estate lawn and the Touro Park host this July festival celebrating Newport's honey heritage within the Gilded Age estate landscape.
