Norman Great Plains Honey & Oklahoma Native Wildflower Expo 2027

Honey Expo · April 24–26, 2027 · Norman, Oklahoma

Norman — home to the University of Oklahoma and the heart of Cleveland County's Cross Timbers oak scrubland — sits where the eastern deciduous forest biome meets the Great Plains, creating the rich botanical mosaic that makes central Oklahoma a uniquely productive honey region where sumac, black locust, clover, prairie wildflowers, and persimmon all contribute to distinctive multi-floral honeys. The Norman region sits within the Cross Timbers ecoregion — a strip of ancient oak woodland running north-south through the center of Oklahoma that acts as a biological crossroads between eastern woodland species and western prairie plants. This spring exposition at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds celebrates Oklahoma's beekeeping heritage and the extraordinary native wildflowers supporting both managed honeybees and the diverse native bee community of the Southern Plains. The expo features honey tasting competitions showcasing Oklahoma regional varietals from Cross Timbers, Tallgrass Prairie, and Red River Valley areas; University of Oklahoma botany department pollinator garden tours; native bee house building workshops; educational sessions from OSU Extension apiculture specialists on spring colony management in the southern Great Plains climate; a local honey artisan market featuring native Oklahoma wildflower honey producers; and live demonstrations from OSU's apiculture research program on Africanized honey bee management in southern Oklahoma.
