The Steamboat Springs Farmers Market and Howelsen Hill Park host this midsummer honey tasting event celebrating the unique wildflower honeys produced across the Yampa, Elk, and White River drainages of northwest Colorado, where beekeepers manage colonies in remote mountain valleys, riverside hayfields, and subalpine meadows that few visitors realize support thriving apiary traditions. Yampa Valley honeys are prized for their complex floral profiles combining high-elevation fireweed, native mountain clovers, blue larkspur, yellow rabbitbrush, late-summer goldenrod, and the distinctive sage species of Colorado's Western Slope — flavors utterly unlike the alfalfa-dominated Eastern Plains or Front Range honey production zones. The tasting features guided flights of Yampa Valley honeys paired with local cheeses and artisan breads; presentations from Routt County beekeepers on managing colonies at high altitude with short but intense honey flow seasons; wildflower identification walks in the meadows above Steamboat; and a sunset honey tasting on Howelsen Hill with panoramic Yampa Valley views.
