Honey Festival · July 11–12, 2032 · Moscow, Idaho
Moscow — the Latah County university city nestled in the rolling Palouse hills of northern Idaho, where the deep volcanic loess soils of one of the world's most productive wheat-growing regions support a rich tapestry of alfalfa, sweet clover, canola, spring wildflower, fireweed, and meadow blossom that nourish bee populations across the Palouse's gentle undulating landscape — in a community renowned for its vibrant arts culture, the University of Idaho's acclaimed College of Agricultural and Life Sciences apiculture program, and its position at the confluence of Idaho's Latah County forests and the sweeping Palouse agricultural plain — is home to a thoughtful and scientifically engaged beekeeping community that bridges agricultural tradition with university-supported apiculture research. This July festival at Friendship Square celebrates the Palouse's honey heritage through producers from across northern Idaho's Latah, Clearwater, and Nez Perce counties, competitive honey shows featuring regional alfalfa, sweet clover, canola, and Palouse wildflower mono-varietal honeys, guided tastings connecting Moscow's artisan food producers with local honey varietals, educational workshops by UI apiculture faculty on Palouse forage ecology and sustainable beekeeping in agricultural landscapes, and live demonstrations celebrating the Palouse's deep connection between agricultural abundance and the beekeeping traditions that support it.
