Honey Festival · July 18–19, 2032 · Richmond, Indiana
Richmond — the Wayne County city in the Whitewater River valley of eastern Indiana, where the rolling hills at the meeting of the Great Plains and the western fringe of the Appalachian foothills support exceptional stands of tulip poplar, basswood, black locust, white clover, goldenrod, and diverse hardwood forest wildflower along the Whitewater River gorge that yield some of Indiana's most distinctive honey varietals — in a community renowned for its deep Quaker heritage, Earlham College's nationally recognized environmental programs, the Gennett Records jazz history, and the Whitewater Gorge Trail's stunning limestone canyon — is home to a principled and ecologically minded beekeeping community shaped by generations of Quaker land stewardship and Earlham's environmental sciences tradition. This July festival at Glen Miller Park celebrates Wayne County's honey heritage through producers from across eastern Indiana's Wayne, Fayette, Union, and Franklin counties, competitive honey shows featuring regional tulip poplar, basswood, black locust, and Whitewater Valley wildflower honey, guided tastings pairing Richmond-area honey with local artisan cheeses and Quaker-tradition baked goods, educational workshops by Earlham College faculty on eastern Indiana's forest ecology and native bee diversity, and demonstrations celebrating the Whitewater Gorge's remarkable role as a biodiversity corridor supporting exceptional local honey production.
