Rewarewa honey from Whenua Honey, a Māori whānau business on the banks of the Ōtara River near Ōpōtiki, in the eastern Bay of Plenty. Rewarewa, also called New Zealand honeysuckle, is a native forest tree, and the bees gather its nectar from rewarewa trees on the family's land. The producer describes a dark, full-bodied honey with a smooth, toasty, caramel-like sweetness. It is raw: gently filtered and never pasteurised. Sold in a 160 g jar priced in New Zealand dollars. Spread it thickly on hot toast, drizzle it over porridge or pancakes, or stir it into tea or coffee.
