About Raw Honey Guide
An independent, research-backed resource helping people discover, understand, and buy quality honey from around the world.
Why does this site exist?
Most people only know one or two types of honey. The reality is far richer — there are hundreds of distinct varieties, each shaped by the flowers bees visit, the soil those flowers grow in, and the climate where the hive sits. A buckwheat honey from upstate New York tastes nothing like an orange blossom honey from Florida, and both are worlds apart from a high-altitude Himalayan cliff honey.
Raw Honey Guide exists to make that diversity accessible. We catalog varieties, explain what makes each one unique, and connect people with local beekeepers and producers. Whether you're choosing honey for a recipe, managing a health condition, or simply curious about what's in your jar, we aim to give you clear, research-backed answers.
How we research and write
Every health claim on this site is supported by published scientific research. We cite peer-reviewed studies from journals including the British Medical Journal, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Nutrients, and Food Chemistry. When the evidence is limited or conflicting, we say so.
Our guides follow a consistent editorial process:
- Topic research using systematic review databases, government health agencies (WHO, FDA, NIH), and academic literature
- Drafting with inline citations to specific studies, including sample sizes, methodology, and publication dates
- Fact-checking all statistical claims, dosage recommendations, and safety warnings against primary sources
- Expert review for medical and nutritional content
- Regular updates when new research is published — every article shows its last-updated date
We do not provide medical advice. Our health-related guides are educational and always include safety precautions and a recommendation to consult a healthcare provider for personal medical decisions.
Independence and transparency
Raw Honey Guide is not owned by, affiliated with, or funded by any honey brand, beekeeping association, or supplement company. We do not accept payment for product placement or reviews. When we recommend specific varieties or brands, those recommendations are based on published certifications (USDA Organic, True Source Certified, UMF ratings), peer-reviewed research, and publicly verifiable quality indicators.
