How US Honey Price Index is built
The index preserves official USDA readings as reported, calculates transparent midpoint and movement fields, and publishes both source URLs and checksums. It contains 23 recorded periods.
This dataset has not been refreshed beyond the USDA AMS report issued Sep 30, 2025; current inventory was not verified.
Coverage gaps
Coverage runs from Jul 2023 to Aug 2025; missing periods are Sep 2023, Feb 2024, Mar 2025. An absent issue remains absent rather than being reconstructed.
What the index measures
USDA AMS domestic bulk ranges for 10,000-pound-or-greater lots form the monthly level. The displayed midpoint is (low + high) / 2. MoM and YoY compare only exact recorded monthly keys. NASS supplies annual producer all-channel, co-op/private, retail, color-class and state context.

How calculations work
- Monthly bulk midpoint: arithmetic midpoint of the as-reported domestic low and high.
- MoM and YoY: exact prior-month and prior-year period keys; absent keys produce no delta.
- Size values: multiplication from a labeled per-pound basis, marked derived.
- Catalog layer: a Jan 18, 2026 relative benchmark, never presented as an official quote.
- Mānuka fit: ordinary least squares over catalog rows carrying MGO and price fields.
What this index does not measure
No retailer shelf-scan data, no BLS honey CPI item, no honey futures, no shipping or tax, and no non-US consumer prices. Imports appear only in the separately labeled USDA import column.
Known limits
- NOT_REFRESHED — AMS freshness was not queried during the exact-SHA persisted-data repair
- SOURCE_RANGE_TRUNCATION — Exact official PDF text omits one or more range highs; period is quarantined and excluded
- Monthly reports can contain thin or single-quote state rows.
- AMS publication commonly trails the represented market month by 45–75 days.
- Domestic f.o.b. and duty-paid import bases are not interchangeable.
- The catalog layer was curated on Jan 18, 2026; it is not refreshed by this stale USDA series.
Update and revision policy
No interpolation. A failed or unavailable report remains an explicit gap. No silent revisions. No reading is revised after the fact; reviewed history and linked provenance are immutable, while later periods may be appended.
